The Individuals and Societies department at Lexington Middle School takes students on an exploration of what it means to be a citizen of Florida, the United States, and the world. The IB Middle Years Program provides students an opportunity to examine their place in the world through hands-on learning and inquiry-based experiences. Through explorations of U.S. History and Civics, students gain a better understanding of the world around them and learn how they can shape society for the better.
For example, students in US History analyze the Boston Massacre as crime scene investigators to better understand different perspectives as well as analyze evidence. Additionally, students in Civics engage in the world through the National Youth Leadership E-Congress. There they craft their own bills and work to pass them.
