Arts

The Arts at Lexington Middle School are designed to give students a well-rounded foundation, as well as offer a global lens through which to view the world by introducing students to various forms of artistic expression, performance styles, and famous works from around the world.

More than just teaching students the elements and principles of art, Lexington students are supported to become artists. We want our students to be able to communicate through their art in all years and all levels of middle school.

Students explore the arts through a variety of classes at Lexington Middle including multiple levels of band and orchestra, theater production and drama, dance and movement, as well as visuals arts such as drawing, painting, and sculpting.

For example, following an inquiry path of “Artistic expression of character and story can be independent of verbal communication," students create and present an original pantomime based on a given prompt, and effectively communicate narrative, emotion, and character using only nonverbal communication skills.

We invite you to check out some student samples below and elsewhere on our website. There are also pictures of our practice and performing spaces.

The subject area overview below provides the program of study over the entirety of the class and for all three years of the program. These are updated frequently as our teachers engage in their own inquiry cycle and reflect on their units of study.
