Mathematics

Mathematics at Lexington is not just about teaching math standards. Our focus is to guide students in becoming more aware of the math around them. We provide rigorous lessons that incorporate the IB learner Profile while bringing the world into their classroom.

Students are given opportunities to apply their math skills in real-world situations. For example, how can they plan a school fundraiser or class field trip? What are the costs associated with school dance and how should they be calculated?

Students in all levels of math learn to derive formulas using conceptual activities. Students are asked to reflect on problem-solving and analyze mathematical processes to see how math functions in multiple ways. Similar to all of the subject areas at Lexington, we want our students to be able to take the math they are learning and use it to engage the outside world.

The subject area overview below provides the program of study over the entirety of the class and for all three years of the program. These are updated frequently as our teachers engage in their own inquiry cycle and reflect on their units of study.
