Dear Parents,
In every school and in every community, there are youth who suffer silently because they feel left out, alone, or invisible. The pandemic may have intensified feelings of social isolation for many students. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and/or depression which may result in pulling further away from society, struggling with learning and social development, and/or hurting oneself or others.
This is why Lee County Schools are rolling out Sandy Hook Promise’s Start With Hello program.
The Start With Hello live presentation is an age-appropriate program designed for grades 6-12 that teaches youth to minimize social isolation, empathize with others, and create a more inclusive and connected school culture.
Sandy Hook Promise will present Start With Hello at Lexington Middle on October 27th to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Administration and school counselors are attending the live training and will be available following the presentation for any student who has questions.
Mr. Bingle, our school SAVE Promise Club Advisor, will continue to support the integration of the key teachings from Start With Hello through youth-led activities and events.
All teachers will be joining their students in the training -- and we encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of empathizing with others and creating a more socially inclusive learning environment.
