Selecting Your Classes for Sixth Grade

Welcome 6th Graders!

We are so glad you are joining us at Lexington. We know one of the exciting things about middle school is the ability to choose some of your classes. This page will help you through the process of selecting elective classes that interest you.

As an International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) school, our electives fall into one of two subject areas: ARTS or DESIGN. Classes such as band, drama, and visual arts are part of the ARTS subject area. Classes such as culinary and computer applications are part of the DESIGN subject area. Each year you will be required to take at least one ARTS class and one DESIGN class. Design classes include a more hands-on/problem solving approach, while the arts are more performance based.

Each elective option for incoming 6th graders is listed on the slide show below along with a brief course description. Once you have read through all the courses on the slide show, click on the Google Form, 6th Grade Electives Selection Sheet, to select and rank your elective choices (course descriptions are also on the Google Form). When choosing electives, you will list your top three choices from Design and also your top three choices from Visual and Performing Arts.

Please complete this form no later than Sunday, May 28th. If you complete the sheet more than once, we will take the most recent submission.

Note that we always try to give students their elective choices, but core academic classes ultimately determine the schedule, so this is not always possible.
